Kmix shows no inputs-Mic won't work

Hello! This is driving me crazy. Using Kmix, I click on the "input" tab, and I show absolutely nothing. I'm trying to get my mic to work; I see it on the OUTPUT tab, and have it enabled, but any program that needs to use it (for sound recording, or Skype for instance) it won't work at all.
How do I restore my input settings so I can toggle the mic on?
Using Suse 9.2; have EVERYTHING updated to current versions...
