Can only start KDE as root

I've just updated my system to Sarge using xfree86 and have a couple of
issues. First, I would prefer to user KDE as my desktop but when I run
the startx command gnome starts automatically and from there I have to
start KDE. But, I can only run KDE as the root user. I can run the
startx command as a non-root user but it runs very slowly and the
startkde command doesn't work. Any suggestions on how to fix this
problem?

Thanks

RE: Can only start KDE as root

I have the same problem now that I've updated from Sarge to Etch. I can only login into kde as root (I've of course touched kdmrc to allow it) Have you solved your problem without re-installing?

Thanks.
