KDE 3.3 screensavers are gone

Hi,
I have updatet to kde 3.3 (i use suse 9.1 and used their rpms). Everything works fine, except the screensavers, when i start kcontrol and go to the screensavers tab, the preview window is black, and none screensaver gives me a preview, only a black window. When i click on test, nothing happens. With xscreensaver, everything works fine, i see apreview and i can test the screensavers. Can anybody help me?
thanks,
Capsad

Hi,
I've just found out, that only the kdeartwork3-xscreensavers donÄt work. If i delete that package, then I have much less screensavers, but they all really work very well.
bye

It happened to me sometimes but only with OpenGL screensavers before I have the correct drivers.

Are all your screensavers OpenGLed?

Probably not but just a guess.

Hi,
no, not all my screensavers are opengl, there are some opengl screensavers as well as some non-opengl screensavers working (like I wrote every screensaver except the ones in the kdeartwork3-xscreensavers rpm package). But I still have testet the screensavers from that package with different graphic drivers (i use a nvidia card an i have testet it with the nv driver, which doesn'T support 3d acceleration, and with the newest nvidia version of the drivers, but one workd with the screensavers mentioned above).
bye

Same problem here, but with SuSE 9.0: Upgraded from KDE 3.2 to KDE 3.3. Screensavers are visible in the configuration panel, but won't work. Screen just turns black. After removing kdeartwork3-xscreensaver, screensavers work, but the list is much smaller.

The problem could be releated to kdeartwork3-xscreensaver, because everything works fine when using xscreensaver instead of kxsrun/kxsconfig:

start the daemon: xscreensaver &
config saver: xscreensaver-demo
test it: xscreensaver-command -activate

Hi again

I solved the problem by just reinstalling a older version of kdeartwork3-xscreensaver.

I found a little better solution without going back versions. It seems we need just a few symlinks... Thanks to Kastorff for posting this on SuSELinuxSupport.de:

The above 2 solutions did not work for me. Here's a third possibility for some:

This worked for me.
-- rm -fr /etc/whitehouse
-- Gentoo | udev | Xorg 6.8.2 | 2.6.14-r4 | KDE 3.5.0
