Menu editor and menu config files

Hi folks. Not sure if this is the right forum, but here goes...

I'm having trouble with the menu editor. It doesn't save my changes, and it sometimes deletes whole swaths of entries (I no longer have any items in the Applications menu or any of the Games sub-menus).

My questions are:

1. Why is it behaving so strangely?

and

2. How do I read the config files in the applnk directory? The folders and files there don't seem to bear much resemblance to (whats left of) my menu structure.

I'm running SUSE 9.0, if that helps. SUSE 8 worked a bit better.

I do love the design of the editor, though.

Thanks a bunch !!

Menu in SuSE 9.0 is based on KDE3.2, it's all changed from old ones. Progs are added to it in specific locations rather than by choice.
To clear things out, use File Manager/Show Hidden files. If there's anything in directories .config/menus/ or .local/share/ then delete them.
Then in console run "kbuildsycoca --noincremental" which will reset menu to default. Might be worth logging out/in to restart everything. (It reBUILDs SYstem COnfig CAche) - have a look at man page or kbuildsycoca --help in a console
