Sound problem

First of all sorry for my bad english....

I'm having some problems with my Soundcard in KDE, i have a C-MEDIA cmi9738 soundcard and it's working fine under
KDE but when i try to connect to the internet or open the modem i can't hear no sound any more, the only thing that
seems to fix this problem is that when i'm connected i restart KDE and now i have both sound and internet working
together, is there a way i can do this without having to restart KDE???

I tried to kill the artsd process and then restarting it againg but that doesn seems to work

Can somebody help me.

My modem is a pctel.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me....
