Hi

Hi,
i 'm having the same problem with winex3.0
I've read on a forum (don't know where anymore) that its a bug of winex3.0
Maybe you could compile winex from cvs because i think that transgaming is working on the problem.
Maybe you could install an older version of wine; I don't know i that will help but i think it deserves a try.

I hope you will find a solution very soon!

WINEX - Socket Problem

This is a known issue with winex 3. The latest glibc causes this bug. The workaround is to edit /usr/bin/winex and add a line around line 19 after the export statements as follows

[code:1] rm -rf $WINEPREFIX/wineserver-$HOSTNAME [/code:1]

Replace $HOSTNAME with the FQDN of your machine.

Hope this helps.

i cant find the /usr/bin/winex,
however the direcoty where the wine stuff resides seems to be /usr/local/bin

the contents are:

[code:1]
[seb@shadowfax bin]$ ls
fnt2bdf wine wineconsole.so winelauncher wineserver
function_grep.pl winebuild winedbg winelauncher~ wineshelllink
maj_demo wineclipsrv winedbg.so winemaker wmc
widl wineconsole winedump wine_relocated wrc
[/code:1]

where shadowfax is my hostname.
upon trying to edit wine, all i get is jumble, as it is not a text file which can be read by an editor. i tried editing other files, but the only one which seems to export anything is Winelauncher, with this present:

WINEBIN=/usr/local/bin
WINELIB=/usr/local/lib
WINESERVER=
WINELIBDLLS=/usr/local/lib

i noticed that wineserver i s empty, should i add something to it?
i also tried adding your code to the end of this section but it still did not work.. :(

how can i try and fix it?

thanks heaps
Seb

Hmmmm. I'm going to have to see if I can get CivilizationIII to run under Winex. If I can, then it'll be "goodbye, Windows!". :D

Well I still got Windows Installed on a small partition but I have not booted in to windows for about 6 or 7 months now. I guess that with winex getting better by the day I will never use Windows again. 8)

One by one but Linux will dominate the PC market one day. :wink:
