I'm running an IBM Thinkpad T30 with an Ati Radeon Mobility M7 (7500) 16MB AGP and in XFree86 4.x the graphics flickered. I'm now running Org 6.8.2 with DRI and have GLX enabled. GLX does not run well on these cards because there is no commercial support for anything under an 8500 or so. Ati has also failed to provide enough specifications for the Mesa GL project to fully implement consistant GLX support in Radeon chipsets. The flickering should go away if you have Org 6.8.2, but I can't promise it. I'm running Slackware 10.1 upgraded to current (09/05) with Linux Kernel 2.6.12.6 (From Source), DRI enabled in Kernel and in Xorg.conf. Under a stock version of Debian, Fedora, and Suse, the 7500 in this machine has flickered. Fedora uses Xorg, and I'm almost positive Suse does, but for some reason their deviant patches against the code have caused some issues. A vanilla 6.8.2 should do the trick, although on Fedora, Suse or Mandrake you have to deal with what you got or go through fire lighten hoops to get it built from source. I have also tried Gentoo 2005.1 with 2.6.12-gentoo-r6 and Andrew Morton's patchset with Org 6.8.2 and did not encounter the issue.
