Splash screen issue

Hello all I'm new to this site and basically to KDE and Linux in general. Well I'm wanting to change my splash screen and have created a new one. I used the default KDE splash as the template. Only changed the lines in the rc file that needed changing. Now when I add it to the Control Center it shows in the preview and when I test it it works. But when I apply the cahnge and restart X the splash is back to the default. I look in the settings file for ksplash and the file shows that it's set to my splash. Any ideas what is causing this?

I'm running KDE 3.2.3.
