Desktop menu won't turn off

I turned on the Macintosh-style desktop menu and now it will not turn off. I've tried through the "Disable Desktop Menu" menu item and it flickers and reappears and in the Control Center it is disabled.

It's not dire, obviously, just annoying.

Red Hat Linux 9, Kernal 2.4.20-8, i686 (Pentium 4), KDE 3.1-10
