symbols on desktop make me mad...

I am using kde 3.1.3 on suse 8.2.
There are some symbols on my desktop (trash, links to drives etc.) that i for some reason want to align
HORIZONTALLY.

rightklicking on desktop choosing symbols, align horizontally should do the trick. however it does not.

rightklicking on desktop choosing symbols, align vertically and then the same with align horizontally DOES the trick.
so it looks like it should.
at the time of my next login I see the same mess as before.
What's am I doing wrong?

no image...

I have made some but don't think i can link them, sorry.

to clarify:
i want the icons on my desktop on the top aligned.
this does not work directly.
and it is not stored for the next session.
however in the meantime i discovered that on another machine the "horizontally align"-button does work as desired. so this is on my machine only :([/img]
