turn off the menu on the top of the desktop

Hello everyone!
it's probably very easy for you guys but I just can't find the option where I can turn off the menu which is on the top of the desktop environment. Where can I turn it completely off?
It's making me insane! :) thnx for your help!

Right click on desktop. Choose "Configure Desktop" in menu. Choose "Behaviour". Under "Misc. Options" uncheck the line "Enable desktop menu".
Ofcorse I use windows, how else would I get fresh air into the room?

it doesn't work! I tried that before. Well, once I click on deactivating the menu (I have it in german) the menu really disappears. But after clicking on another window, it's back again.

Sounds like it is something funny with your config files. Look into.

This file contains an entry:

[Menubar]
ShowMenubar=false
[/code:1]

Also look at the permissions to the file. Mabe your change does not get writtten to the file properly.
Ofcorse I use windows, how else would I get fresh air into the room?

it does not work. But it must be has something to do with the user. Doing it as another user works fine (i tried with root and the menu really disapeared forever). Whatelse can I do??????? Thanks for your help till now! I really appreciate it!

I just found out that the menu disapears after disabling till I click on the desktop. Then it's back again. It also remains if another window gets the focus, but I can disable it and it really disapears again till the desktop gets the focus back...
Anybody with a hint?

It is really set to false?

BTW i noticed kind of a bug if you try to turn of the desktop menu through
the option in the desktop menu under the entry "Desktop". Then it behaves exactly as you discribe. It goes away for a while, and then when you activate another window it comes back again.

You could of course do something else... Make a backup of the ~/.kde directory and delete it altogether. Do the same for any ~/.qt like directories and any files that even remotely look like they have anything to do with KDE in the root of your homedirectory.

Restart KDE and fiddle about a bit. If the bar doesn't come back, it's in one of those files. If it does, something else is wrong.
