[KOPETE] Readme: Yahoo!

The most common problem which seems to arise with kopete in this forum is connection to the yahoo protocol. This thread is dedicated to the best ways of alleviating the connection problem so users don't have to create a new thread everytime.

You must have at least kopete 0.8.4 for yahoo support

You can check your version through the Help menu > About Kopete

Some steps to troubleshoot:
Check your internet connection, including network settings such as firewalls etc.
[/list:u]
Try removing $HOME/.kde/share/apps/kopete (BACKUP FIRST!). The easiest way to do both at the same time is to rename the folder.
[/list:u]
Upgrade your kopete version. Yahoo! has a notorious reputation for changing its protocol so that third party applications (such as kopete) cannot connect to the network. visit the kopete website at http://kopete.kde.org for packages.[/list:u]

If I recall correctly, (as of this writing) Kopete v 0.84 is the latest version to support Yahoo messenger.

I am running Kopete 0.9.2 and within the last couple of days, Yahoo seems to punt the Kopete client within seconds of connecting. The Yahoo! client connects fine under Windows.

Disregard - the problem was a socket file in the cache. I cleared /var/tmp/ksocket-kim, relaunched kopete and all is well -- so far.

However, there seem to exist more problems.
Regularly and consistently, the connection to yahoo "stalls". By stalling, i mean that the contact buddies's status seem to freeze and are not updated, the connection APPEARS to still work, but it doesnt. Any change on my own status is apparently done with success, but only in theory, because if i disconnect and reconnect, i can see that after all, i was the one stopped in time, and not everyone else.

This happened on the transition from 0.9.2 to 10.0.

Nope, it still happens on 0.10.4, this bug has been literally... ignored.

The simple solution is: "oh well, back to Gaim".

RE: [KOPETE] Readme: Yahoo!

The higher version of Kopete you can get for Yahoo! support the better. Specific issues (such as disconnects) with Yahoo! should be added as bugs to bugzilla so that we can track and fix them. If you're going to submit a bug, please use the latest available version (which as i write this is 0.12 alpha 1) if you can.

Thanks

what bug?

this forum is not a place to report bug reports, so if the only place you reported the bug is this forum, then yes, it will most likely be ignored.
KDE bugzilla is the appropriate place to file bug reports.

We believe we've fixed these bugs as best as we can, but if you can produce an alternate scenario where the bug is not fixed with the latest version of Kopete (0.12 alpha 1) then please let us know by filing a bug.
