Problems Moving kmail to New PC

Somewhere on the net I read I can copy the ./kde/share/apps/kmail directory, the ./kde/share/config/kmailrc file, and the Mail directories from my old PC to my new one and have all my email established on my new PC. Despite my best efforts, all I get are subject lines, date of receipt, and read status - NO content.

Also, could there be a conflict between mbox and maildir between the 2 kmails? If so, how to I handle that?

I'd really appreciate any tips about where I can go from here.

Thanks a lot.

Trish

P.S. My old distro is MEPIS; new is Fedora Core 2.

Best way to migrate data is to use tar to create an archive, it takes care of hidden files and permissions, etc

You could try it this way
oldmachine:~> tar cvf mails.tar Mail/ .kde/share/config/kmailrc .kde/share/apps/kmail .kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf

newmachine:~> tar xvf mails.tar

The file .kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf is you standard addressbook, usually one wants to include that as well.

I never understood that problem (meaning that the same happened to me). Addictionaly when I cliked some message the subject disappeared and everything I got was "Unknown Subject" or the like. So I use mostly dIMAP now.

Ok, you can try to create a new folder and change the type to mbox. Copy the messages you want to that folder. Copy the mbox file to you new machine and the import the mbox file with "Tools->Import Messages".
That's because KMail can only import mbox files or plain the messages.

Problems Moving kmail to New PC

Thanks so much for your inputs to both m4ktub and, MOST especially, to anda_skoa. Anda_skoa, your solution worked magnificently. Folders, messages, asddresses, filters - all are perfectly established. Just when I was on the verge of giving up, you saved the day. Thanks!!!
