Keyboard "bounce" on remote desktop connection

I am running a remote desktop connection from a SuSE 8.1 system running 3.3.0 to a shared desktop on a Debian Sarge box running 3.2. The network connection is a not paritcularly reliable wireless lan. When using the keboard I get quite frequent repeats of key presses. This is most noticeable on the "return" key. As you can guess this makes the connection quite difficult/dangerous to use.

Has any one else come across this problem. Does anyone know of a solution.
