Trouble connecting to IRC through Kopete

I'm an IRC newb. HEre's the output in the server window when I try to connect:

(3:39:17 am) # irc.freenode.net has changed their status to Online.
(3:39:17 am) # NOTICE : *** Looking up your hostname...
(3:39:17 am) # NOTICE : *** Checking ident
(3:39:17 am) # NOTICE : *** Couldn't look up your hostname
(3:39:32 am) # Twiggy794 has changed their status to Offline.
(3:39:32 am) # irc.freenode.net has changed their status to Offline.

So what'm I doing wrong to connect?

Any help is awesome, thanks!

Hi.

I also couldn't connect to irc using kopete 0.8rc1, which version are you using?
Kopete 0.7.5 works alright thought. Now I would like know does anyone else had that kind of connecting problem with 0.8rc1?

I'm on .8rc1 ~ I also have trouble staying connected to Oscar on it. I have no problems with MSN or ICQ though.

Seems to me that we should wait for the actual 0.8 release to get all working. Don't forget to file a bug report. :)

I'm running 0.80 (first time I used IM's since 2000, and first time I ever ran Kopete...pretty nice) on Qt 3.3, KDE 3.2.0.

I can get AIM Yahoo ICQ Jabber to work, but IRC fails to connect:

Are other people getting IRC to work in 0.8?

Yyyyeah ~ I had this problem. You're going to have to build Kopete from source (grab the KDENetwork source package off of KDE's website, since the Kopete website doesn't have .8final posted yet). Go into the directory kopete/protocols/irc/libkirc and open up kirc.cpp. Line number 363 will have a value in it (probably 15000). Change the 15 to a 60. This is the setting for a timeout, which is by default set at 15 seconds. You want it set to 60.

You do not need to recompile kopete - if suffices to add an entry in ~/.kde/share/config/kioslaverc
[code:1]
ConnectTimeout=70
[/code:1]

Then restart kopete and it should work. (it did for me)

thanks for help but that didn't do the trick for me, still can't connect to irc server. Using kopete 0.8.3 which came with KDE 3.2.3. Has anyone else anymore ideas?
