Kopete - execute problem - Xlib: connection to ":0.0&qu
Hi All
I am relatively new to Linux so forgive me if this is a no-brainer.
I am running SuSE 9. I downloaded kopete-0.8beta2. I can run "./configure --prefix-/usr/local" fine, and then "make", and "make install" (as root) successfully.
However when I run /usr/local/bin/kopete, this is what I get:
201-11:/usr/local/bin # ./kopete
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
kded: cannot connect to X server :0.0
DCOP aborting call from 'anonymous-15070' to 'kded'
ERROR: Communication problem with kded, it probably crashed.
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
kdeinit: Can't connect to the X Server.
kdeinit: Might not terminate at end of session.
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
kopete: cannot connect to X server :0.0
ERROR: KUniqueApplication: Registering failed!
ERROR: Communication problem with kopete, it probably crashed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Ok, usually when you see this it is because Xfree doesnt like you switching between priveleges in bash and then running programs as nonsuper users. Translation, you were using bash as root to install, then you did a su *your username* and then ran kopete and sometimes Xfree doesnt like that. Try running kopete from a new terminal. If that doesnt clear it up do a 'which konqueror' to be sure your prefix is correct.
