Standalone Konqueror?

Hi all-

A long time Linux user, I switched to the Gnome Desktop after some attempts to use KDE 2.1/Konqueror resulted in frustration and lost data. After KDE 3 was released, I decided to give Konqueror one more try without uninstalling Gnome; however, it seems to me this may be more difficult that I thought.

Does anyone know where I can find a standalone Konqueror 3 package? I tried installing it on RH 7.3 from RPMs but installing kdebase, kdelibs, qt, and dependencies requires more than 200MB of disk space and I find that excessive, given that I only need the browser. I noticed some distros, such as Alt Linux, come with a package called kdebase-konqueror -- does that mean Konqueror is also available as a standalone RPM? It is surprising that Konqueror cannot be downloaded as a standalone package from kde.org but maybe I didn't know where to look for it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Konqueror needs kdelibs. kdelibs needs qt. So you really need these packages.
Would be the same as I would like to use evolution, but without gtk, without gnome-vfs, without bonobo etc.

I understand that. But kdebase requires 88MB. kdelibs requires 55MB. arts requires 19MB. qt requires 15MB. And the list of dependencies goes on. I find these requirements somewhat surprising for a web browser.. unless it's supposed to work in the context of the KDE Desktop only, in which case it doesn't matter. :)

Well perhaps this could change in the near future. Apple has removed a lot of dependencies (also kdelibs I think) from khtml, so it might be able that there will be other Programs using khtml but who don't need kdelibs :) By the way: Also konqueror has some very nice features, mozilla ist still better. Perhaps this might change in KDE 3.2 when apples changes are in it, but at the moment I think that mozilla is still the best browser.

Yes, you're right, Dimitri. This is actually why I currently use Mozilla and nothing else on Linux. Galeon and Thunderbird are lagging behind, they're maybe a little faster than Mozilla but with some bugs still unfixed. I just wanted to run some Javascript compatiblity tests in Konqueror so I thought I'd give 3.x a try. Too bad it's not possible to install it unless I have the KDE Desktop.

Cheers!

Konqueror depends on kdelibs, which depends on arts and qt.
It also depends on some base libraries vom kdebase but not the whole kdebase, but most RPM base distributions only offer a full kdebase package.

That is for X11 Konqueror.
Konqueror/Embedded does not depends on so much AFAIK.
