Viewing man pages in Konqueror

Mysterious to me:

For a long time when I viewed Linux 8 man pages in a konqueror terminal window any bold-ed characters were jumbled: It looked like konqueror wasn't properly processing backspace characters...(?)

Now the same characters are beautifully presented in color -- but I didn't do anything.

Can anyone tell me how that might have happened? How does one control the man-page viewing characteristics of Konqueror?
