Flash plugin, Konq 3.1.0 and Mandrake 9.1

I've recently been testing konqueror 3.1.0 (the one which comes with Mandrake 9.1) and I've been impressed with it on the whole

BUT

why do plug-ins not work? When I go to the 'Configure Konqueror' (I can't remember the exact wording of the menu option, as my Linux box is down at the moment so I'm typing this under Explorer) or whatever menu option it is that is supposed to bring up the plug-in configurator, nothing happens. Konq doesn't crash, it just doesn't bring up the required window.

I downloaded the Linux Mozilla Flash plug-in, installed it and then ran 'nspluginscan' (or whatever that command is called) but that didn't do anything except show a few numbers. The Mozilla that comes with Mandrake 9.1 doesn't work at all (it loads, and thats it) and Galeon works a bit, but none of them are accepting plug-ins.

SO, if I download the very latest Konq, will I be able to use the Flash (or any other Mozilla) plugin? If not, what version of Konq must I downgrade to to get the Flash plug-in to work?

Thanks,

dan

Well, flash works for me (Gentoo, KDE 3.1.1, flash plugin that
comes with Gentoo). So it's not a fundamental incompatibility
but seems to be a problem with your installation/distro.

But: The page http://www.transelement.co.uk/
doesn't work for me (right clicking on the solid blue
background shows the typical flash context menu, but it
says "movie not loaded"). In Mozilla it works, though.
AFAIK they're using the same plugin... no idea what
causes the different behaviour.

If you manage to get to the "Configure Konqueror"
menu you should check whether the search path list
inlcudes the directory you installed the plugin to.
You might try the control center, too.
All the konqi config menus should be duplicated there, too.

Configure Konqueror does nothing!

I've reinstalled Mandrake 9.1 now, this time I haven't installed Mozilla or Galeon at all. I'm typing this in Konqueror (3.1.0, KDE 3.1.0) and, just as before, going into Settings/ Configure Konqueror' does nothing. The rest of Konqueror seems to be fine though.

Anybody else had this problem?

If I download the latest KDE (keeping in mind I don't have broadband) is Flash/ plugins/ that menu item pretty much guaranteed to work?

Thanks!

dan

- It's absolutely *not* normal that the config dialog
doesn't come up. Never happened to me.

- I don't know Mandrake. Did you check any
Mandrake-specific forums? If the problem is with
the stock install I'd expect other people to experience
the same. If that's the case I it's up to Mandrake
to fix it, IMHO.

- What happens if you open the KDE control centre and
go to the plugin menu there?

Update

The 'Configure Konqueror' menu DOES appear now, it's just there is often a 30 second (or longer) delay between selecting it and it appearing. This also happens when I start Konqueror sometimes i.e it takes an usually long time to load. I'm running a Athlon XP 2000 w/ 512 MB PC400 DDR so I don't think it's a hardware issue- maybe I've just got something configured wrong.

Still, I can't get the Flash plug-in to work. I did a:

rpm -i flash-plugin-6.0.79-1.i386.rpm

And that brought up an agreement which I agreed to and then it said setup was complete. I then went into the 'Configure Konqueror' /Plug-ins. I clicked the 'scan for plug ins' under the 'scan' tab but all it says under the 'plug ins' tab is 'Netscape Plug-ins' and nothing else. No mention of Flash.

How do I find out which directory it has installed the Flash plug-in into? I tried doing a :

rpm --list flash-plugin-6.0.79-1.i386.rpm

and

rpm -l flash-plugin-6.0.79-1.i386.rpm

But that produced no results. Anybody know the filename I'm searching for OR what the proper rpm command I need is.

Thanks!
