kword font problem

hey,

i have got this annoying problem with fonts in kword. i get "squares" instead of letters, indicating that the font choosen is somehow missing. however, when i chose font in the kword config menu the fonts show up perfectly, then when changing back to the document the "squares" have returned!!!

i'm on gentoo 1.4 with the 2.4.20 kernel
installed koffice with the gentoo portage app.

any help would really appreciated!
