kMix missing from statusbar in KDE 3.3 (SuSE)

kmix (volume control) is missing from the status bar of some users on our system, running SuSE 9.2 with KDE 3.3.

When starting kmix manually from the menu it works fine, but it never runs automatically anymore on login, and some users have to set this manually.

Is this a common problem?

Can someone more experienced than me kindly point me towards how to remedy this so that kmix loads to the statusbar upon login for all users all the time?
