kde icons gone missing...

so all of a sudden im without icons for almost everything... some apps run still altho are very difficult to use ... some crash on startup (presumably they cannot init their toolbars or such)

does anybody have any idea how to fix this without a complete reinstall?

debian sarge + kde 3.2.3
