Problem compiling kdebase 3.2.3

While compiling kdebase 3.2.3 I get this error:

FontEngine.cpp: In member function bool
CFontEngine::getGlyphBitmap(FTC_Image_Desc&, long unsigned int,
CFontEngine::Bitmap&, int&, int&, int&, void**):
FontEngine.cpp:2766: 'struct FTC_SBitRec_' has no member named 'max_grays'
make[4]: ***[Fontengine.lo] Error1

Reading through the newsgroups suggested that I need to update to the latest build of Freetype2. I installed Freetype2 build 2.1.9 but I still get the same error during the make. Can anyone suggest a solution please?

You should probably get stuck into kde 3.3.0

its out, and it's great ;)
