uncontrolable mouse

sometimes when i move the mouse it will act like i have the button clicked and it will drag and resize windows, open applications, etc. without me wanting it too.

this is driving me insane, it happens way too frequently.

anyone know what i can do? chances are this is not a hardware problem.
