Slow KDE?

Hello! I'm new to the forums and Linux, I need help with something...

KDE is running a tad slow ever since I first installed it
I am using Slackware 9.1 and it runs fine, boots fine, and I have extremely fast HDD access, and even KDE itself boots relatively fast, but KDE's programs start up slowly.

Any ideas?

Use another distro which applies more performance tweaks. e.g. Mandrake & SuSE are faster than the average distro

make sure /etc/hosts contains the actual name of your computer
