Mime type problems
When ever I open just about any KDE app I get the following message:
Could not find mime type
application/octet-stream
The file
/usr/share/mimelnk/application/octet-stream.desktop
exists and does not appear to be corupt.
The problem started when I added file associations for mathematica and a few video types with the file associations menu in control center.
Any ideas about how to fix this problem would be appreciated.
I'm using KDE 3.1.4 (from the fedora RPM's) on RH 9
Thanks,
Andrew
Solution
Finals are now over and I had time to figure this out.
Copying
/usr/share/mimelnk/application/octet-stream.desktop
to
~/.kde/share/mimelnk/application/octet-stream.desktop
fixed the problem.
The file
~/.kde/share/mimelnk/application/octet-stream.desktop
existed but was almost empty. It looked like it had been overwriten. So on a hunch I replaced it and it solved the problem.
Andrew.
It should also be possible to remove the version in .kde/
If it exists it overides the one in KDE's install directory, but if it doesn't the global one is used.
Cheers,
