K Menu Shorctuts not appearing (3.2 b2)
I recently installed KDE 3.2 b2 on my computer with Gentoo. It works great as it always has except for the fact that any additions I make to the K Start Menu no longer appear.
Let's say I do a KAppFinder and I select Mozilla to add to the menu. When I go to the menu it isn't there. When I check my home folder for the appropriate mozilla.desktop file it is there with the correct settings inside. On my previous installations of KDE this has always worked without requiring me to do anything extra. However in my current installation it is no longer linked to the K Menu as if it is hidden. Is there a way for me to manually create some kind of symlink or am I missing some file which intergrates your home folder's links into the system menu? I did notice that organization of the menus has changed a bit but I did install KDE 3.2 b2 on another distro and didn't have this same problem.
I looked into my system a bit further and found that other users have no problem adding links to the menus, only root can't do it. If I place mozilla.desktop into the /.kde/share/applnk/ directory then the mozilla link appears on the root K Menu. However when my mozilla.desktop is placed inside the corresponding /.kde/share/applnk/Internet directory then it doesn't show up at all.
Be careful that the .desktop files in your personal directory are not read-only. (Otherwise KIOSK is blocking.)
However it might be another problem.
Have a nice day!
