kde hangs

hi...
i am currently new to linux systems.
just installed mandrake 9.1 and when enter startx, the window just hang there, not loading any icons, just the mouse pointer as either a watch or arrow.

the same thing occurs in both root and user accounts. wats the prob here??

Could you send a copy of your /var/log/XFree86.log ?

cannot find xfree86.log

the file xfree86.log cannot be found in the dirctory u put up... so instead i use the kdm-error.log.
