Acrobat Reader/Kprinter Error Message While Printing

I recently upgraded KDE from 3.0.3 to 3.05a on mdk linux 9.0 (2.4.19.-24mdk), and have run into an annoying error message everytime I print from Acrobat Reader 5.0. Please note that this is a home network, and I do not use NIS services. I've also posted this issue on Mandrake Expert, but no help from them. Here is the error, once I launch the print request to kprinter and click on the [OK] button to confirm that the job was sent to the printer:

Acrobat Reader (dialog box):

sh: line 1: ypcat: command not found
KDirWatch: /etc/security/fileshare.conf is a file. Use addFile!

Please note that the contents of fileshare.conf are:

RESTRICT=no

I do receive my printed output, but the error message is annoying. However, if I send the print request directly to lpr, I do not receive the error. Also, I have two printers (HP LJ5MP and DJ855Cse) hung off a Hawking PN7337 dedicated print server, so I do not have any printers attached to my linux or windows systems, they reside on the network.

Lastly, CUPS is installed and has been configured with these printers as a side effect of upgrading KDE. When I initially setup my linux system, I only setup the printers as lpr devices. However, I prefer to use KDEprint going forward, but need some help to address this error message.

Best Regards,

Bill

Well, I just confirmed that the error message does not arise when the print request is sent to lpr or xpp. It only occurs when the print request is sent to KPRINTER. So this indicates that there is an issue with kprinter in the KDE 3.0.5a release. So, can someone who is more knowledgeable of mdk linux 9.0 (2.4.19-24mdk) kde 3.0.5a, acroread 5.0.5, cups 1.1.18, please help! Thanks..Bill

Hello,

I had the same problem with upgrade from 8.2 to 9.0 Mandrake.

I sloved it very simply by clicking on "language level 1" instead of "Language level 2" in the printing dialogue box of acrobat.

Hope this will work the same for you

I just tried your suggestion of changing from "language 2" to "language 1", but got the same error result, so I then tried "language 3" to see if it made any difference. I still receive the same error. However, it appears to work with "xpp", just fine, so I'll stick with using xpp (just have to remember to type it in versus going with the default of "kprinter". Oh, well, I guess somethings will remain disfunctional for awhile!

thanks,

Bill
