KDE4: Drawers and other.

I have installed KDE4 recently with the testing version of Debian, and it is mostly an improvement, but I am getting a bit annoyed. There seems to be a number of small changes that don't really make sense; to take a few:

1. There seems to be nothing like a "drawer" applet for the panel: a button in which I can place other buttons so I can group together all the office application etc

2. For some reason I can't move the buttons on the panel, so they are stuck in the order they were created; not very elegant

3. What happened to the menu you used to see when you right-clicked on the background? I found that one very useful.

Perhaps I just haven't discovered where these things are hidden now; if so, can somebody help me, please?

1. How about <folder view plasmoid> not only you can place or drop application but most important you can place template or data (similar as OS/2 did under the OO WPS). For example you can make a model letter save it as template and place the template there, with envelope template etc. Next time you just click on it and you letter is ready to fill up. This is just an example of this very powerful widget. You can have a remote files system into it. You can use filtering etc. Great.

2. Click on the cashew on the panel, and the setting etc will open. Move the cursor over the top of the application and it will become a 4 arrow cursor. d-n d

3. Desktop Activity Setting/Mouse Action/Right Mouse.

kde4 is a fantastic environment, it is different and will take some time until you fill at home but it worth it.

Hi terry, thanks for helping. I'll try those out asap.

BBTW, do you know - in kde3 I used to set up CtlF1 to CtlF9 so that they would move the active window to the respective desktop (1 - 9), something that I used quite often, but it seems to have disappeared in kde4. Probably I just have to look in another place now. Do you know where?

Try Ctrl-F8 and d-n-d any application to the desktop you wanted, neat!

Hmm, I tried Ctl-F8, but it doesn't do anything; I can still right-click on the titlebar and move the window to other desktops, but I was hoping to be able to use a keyboard shortcut as before.

BTW, I tried out the suggestions in your previous post - it worked! Thanks!

Be sure under desktop effects you have checked <desktop grid> there you will find the ctrl-F8
