How to add Return to desktop shortcut, or Plasma Dashboard shortcut

I am told that there is no way of adding a button in my toolbar which quickly returns me to a clear desktop. I have been told that I need to use the Plasma Dashboard which is activated using CTRL-F12. Fair enough. However, when I am using my mouse it is often clumbersome to have to press two keys. Is there a way of adding a shortcut to the toolbar which launches the Plasma Desktop?

There is a Widget for that. Add "Show Dashboard" to your panel and it should work.
