some config problems
After lots of messing around i have managed to get my application icons on the task bar (silly me i was just dragging them to the task bar instead of the very small space allocated for them.
I've even managed to get the clock to the right hand side.(why not just let us right click and move)
I still have a couple of problems though.
When i try to change the default icon pic with my own custom ones i get the message
Could not save properties. You do not have sufficient access to write to /media/.directory.
Is there anyway to do this.
I have also tried to add widgets to the add widgets dialog via the download button, Specifically the quick launch file browser and the amarok widget but they don't show up once installed(even tried a reboot after install). Any ideas anyone.
I have now got 2 desktops but still cannot add more and desktop effects will not switch off (the are not selected in the settings window(as ordinary user or as root)
Final one for now, In the run dialog is there any way to get back the "run with a different priority-user-run in terminal. I sometimes use the run dialog to start apps as root or if an app wont start to run in a treminal to find out why.
thanks sparky64
can you be more specific when you say you try to change "the default icon pic"?
for adding the widgets, you clicked add widget in the dialog popup and the red minus sign is lit up but the widget still isn't there? i'm guessing perhaps the red minus sign isn't lit up meaning the widget may not have been added. don't drag and drop it, try just clicking the add buttom - i found drag and drop a little hard because there are many places you aren't allowed to drop it...
Default icon pick
Hi jetpeach.
To replace a default icon pic on the taskbar just right click icon and select icon settings
In the top left there is a pic of the icon (Or in the one i want to change a box with a question mark)
click the pic and a selection of icons show up. I usually use other icons and use my custom made ones, But even selecting any of the icons shown results in the permissions error.
Why should i need to escalate to root to change an icon picture on my desktop (not all desktops)
On the widget side i drag and drop because it put the widget where it wants not where i want it( eg:- the clock widget goes to the left and the app launcher to the far right.
The problem with them though is that i can add apps to the widget dialog from file and they show up, But when i use the download from the internet it says they are installed but they don't show up in the dialog box.
And i am still stuck on how to add run as root to the run dialog. I have been looking through the bug list but havn't found anything yet. If anyone has seen it let me know and i will add my votes. Or open a new one if i can't find it by the end of the week.
Thanks for the reply.
