1. plasma crashes every time I click on the 'preview' tab of the icon properties.
which distro are you using? is your strigi up to date? i don't have this problem, running kubuntu 8.04 with the 4.1 sources
2. desktops are not restored properly during session startup. konsole
windows are restored only on one of the desktops. Other desktops lose
their konsole windows. This is basic desktop mgmt!
basic but i'm guessing it may not fully implemented. i also believe session management things are largely affected by the distro you're using - i know kubuntu customizes startup (e.g., i can't figure out how to stop knetworkmanager from starting). i think when distros release their versions customized for kde 4.1 most problems are likely to be fixed. also, did you upgrade to 4.1? some files may have changed in the session management that are causing problems. you could try clearing your config files...not sure this will fix it though, and it could be related to your other problems with desktops (that i don't have)
3. konsole is always opened on desktop 1. I am in desktop 2 and click
on konsole icon on plasma bar, it opens in desktop 1. From dolphin, I
say 'open in a terminal' and it opens terminal on desktop 1, while I
keep waiting for it to appear in desktop 2.
again, i simply don't have this problem. in both cases, it opens in the correct desktop for me (from dolphin or from menu)
4. kmail needs kwallet but the dialog is thrown in desktop 1. Once I
acknowledge the dialog in desktop 1, kmail opens in desktop 2. Take me
to appropriate desktop or open the damn thing in the current desktop!
didn't test, but since i don't have the previous problem i'm guessing i don't have this one either
6. konqueror keeps cribbing about "unknown host" from time to time,
whereas firefox can open those sites fine. What's up with that?
again, i don't have this problem. for me, konq is actually usable now because it looks _so_ much better than it did (fonts etc)...
kmail has over 2400
open bugs and many of them are showstopper (crash/hang) from end user
perspective. How can anyone in their right mind release it?
i'm not exactly sure when the desktop came to require including so many problems (kmail, browsers, etc etc), but i think the desktop part of KDE is ready now for use (i was disappointed with kde 4.0 as well, but waiting 6 months for 4.1 was not the end of the world). as for all the programs that need to be migrated over, k3b amarok and many others aren't even out of beta for kde4 yet - but that to me doesn't mean the desktop isn't usable. you can always use your kde3 programs in kde4, i find they work great still! perhaps you should try the older version of kmail instead for now? i'm using amarok 1.4 happily. i don't get the new kde4 features with it yet, but i know the new versions will be finished soon enough. i was nervous about using kde3 problems with kde4 at first, but now that i've been doing it, i have found no problems with doing so whatsoever, so recommend it for anybody encountering bugs in the new kde4 problems.
cheers,
