If you log in on the command line, you don't need kdm; you can just run `startkde' (you are already logged in, why would you want to log in again?).
If you want kdm to start when you boot the machine, you need to add it to your initscripts. Try `chkconfig dm'; if that doesn't work, come back here and tell us which distro you use.t
i did try
startkde but it don't works
chkconfig is not available
