I really should know how to fix this but to my embarrassment, I do not.
I do a lot of experimenting with styles and themes and I install Linux with KDE on 40-60 systems a month. I am constantly running into some combinations of styles and gtk2 themes that leave many fields on the screen unreadable. I mean, the fonts themselves are fine, it is like they are too closely shaded to the color of the background to be read. I can usually fix this by changing the color scheme but in many cases, that is going against the overall environment I am trying to create.
Pop-up windows are the worst and in cases lately, the fields at the bottom of firefox are way too faded. As well, some of the css formatted portions of the browser are much too light. (file - edit - view...) And yes, I have "fixed" it by changing color themes but often that does nothing to make the dialog boxes readable again.
I have included some screenshots to illustrate what I am talking about. My problem is that I do not understand the mechanics of gtk/gtk2/ and qt in relation and combination with KDE. Note the very bottom of the firefox browser...the metallic strip. You can barely see the print there. I am hoping someone on this board can put me straight as to what I must do to avoid this.
