Maybe it's my fault for being used to installing desktop themes in Gnome, but I'm having a very difficult time installing and applying new themes for KDE 3.5. I have downloaded several from kde-look.org (under the Themes/Styles section), saved them in a Themes folder in my ~ directory, used Ark to extract them into a subdirectory, and this usually makes a .kth file appear. I go to Control Center -> Appearance and Themes -> Theme Manager, click Install New Theme..., navigate to the new .kth file, and after choosing it, the theme's name appears in the Theme Manager's theme list, but when I click on it, there is no preview and the Apply button does nothing. Where a preview usually appears, it says, "This theme does not contain a preview."
Some of the themes I have been trying, for instance, are:
Blue Planet (
http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Blu…t?content=53970)
Dark Blue (
http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Dark+Blue?content=79015)
Mint Kore (
http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Min…e?content=78217)
They all come with a .kth file already, so there wasn't a problem with extracting or running the ./install command or anything from a n00b like me. Oddly enough, I did get one to work, called Darkness (
http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Dar…e?content=29314). I didn't do anything differently with it.
I'm running Ubuntu 8.04. Maybe a problem with the directory I put them in?
