KDE4 - Question on Transparency

Hey,
Just got KDE4 up and running on gentoo.. I do have a couple of questions though. First, I can't find a network manager or working wifi manager anywhere.. I assume I'm just missing a package though, I should be able to sort that out myself. I'm inclined to merge knetworkmanager, but there are blocks and masks on the package, and I'm not sure if it's even compatible with KDE4 or if it overlaps with another package... Either way, I've got wireless working using wifi-radar, though it's less than ideal.

To get to the point though, I have a nasty black box where transparency should be.Picture (see the lower right corner).
I thought it might be something to do with xshape so I checked my xorg.conf and extmod is indeed loaded. Advanced desktop effects are not enabled because they seem to only intermittently work. My graphics card is an X3100 (intel) using the intel driver.

If anyone could help, that'd be great. I can provide extra information if required, though I'd need to know what that information is.

Thanks in advance for any help! :)
