get & install display driver

Good Evening,
OK.. totally confused. Cant seem to get any answers yet. If I wanted to update a disply adapter driver for Kubuntu or PCLOS, where would I go? The Repositories? the manufacturer? I tried with no luck. If I did get it how do I install it? ..Where can I get the info on how to do this , without posting to a forum? Thank You ...Rich
