Switching layouts in KDE 3.5.8

Hello everyone.

I've added Russian layout and assigned a shortcut for it. When I press the shortcut or click the indicator with flag the icon on the indicator changes but layout in started applications is not changed. But if I start a new application after this it starts with switched layout.

One more thing, this occures in KDE and Gnome applications but changing layout in xterm works immediately, that is in current xterm.

I've tried executing "setxkbmap -layout ru" and this switches layout immediately in xterm and gnome-terminal but not in Konsole.

Any help is appreciated. My Linux is Debian Lenny.

RE: Switching layouts in KDE 3.5.8

maybe it's not the case, but this is how i made for myself - i assigned "XkbLayouts" to "us,ru", "XkbVariants" to ",winkeys", "XkbOptions" to "grp:alt_shift_toggle" (to be able to switch with alt-shift, i'm a Windows refugee :-))) and install kxneur (automatic layout switcher) and set it to manual mode (so it doesn't switch but still shows what layout i have right now). Try it, could prove useful.

EDIT oh and turned off KDE native layout switching (since ctl+alt+something is not exactly what i am accustomed to)
Hell ain't a bad place to be
