amarok: mysql + update collection not working

I am having an issue with Amarok's update collection feature.

Clicking the update collection button or Tools->Update collection does not work.

Also when I make changes in my collection, there is no automatic update. I
have both scan folders recursively and watch folders for changes selected. If I
deselect or reselect these options, the apply button does not work too. The
apply button does not work when selecting folders.

The version is 1.4.8 on Fedora 8. I have filed a report and getting very little feedback. There are reports that some people are having this issue. But there is no solution that I have found that correct the problem.
