after I type something, my xterm updates only after I move my mouse

hello,

I'm having an issue with my vnc session. My xterm is getting updated only after I move my mouse. I type a simple command like "ls", and only see what I typed after I move my mouse. After pressing "Enter", I again need to move my mouse to see the command output. I'm a newbie, and have tried killing kwin and restarting it but that didn't help. Does anyone have a clue?
