/tmp blowout

Hi

Using KDE archiving tools on big tarballs seems to insist on blowing up the /tmp directory on the system partition, failing when there is insufficient space there. If I try to put /tmp elsewhere, KDE fails. If I try to move the KDE-/tmp-subdirectories (link them out elsewhere), KDE ignores that and auto-recreates new ones directly in /tmp again on the system partition.

Is there a way to force KDE to put its temporary working storage somewhere else besides in /tmp ..(directly or indirectly)?

cheers.
