No Desktop Device Icons

I recently updated my OS Kubuntu 7.04 to 7.10.
When the OS rebooted, the Device-Icons that were
on the Desktop were no longer displayed. After
searching on this forum, I found a post that said that
the icons were located at the KDE Directory in the
User Directory. The Icons SubDirectory does not exist
in KDE 3.5.8, but I found KDEglobal file. Can I modify
this file in order to get the Device Icons to display on
the Desktop? The reason that I want the Device Icons
is because I want to access the second HDD Partitions.
why me?

RE: No Desktop Device Icons

I finally found out how to fix this.
First: Right-click on the Desktop and select Create new>Device link>Hard-drive.
Second: Type in name you have chosen for icon.
Third: Left-click on Device tab and enter /dev/device designation assigned by OS.
Fourth: Left-click OK and window will close and icon will appear on Desktop.
The correct information must be entered in Device tab or error message will open.
why me?
