HowTo Modify KDEGlobals

My Device icons will not display on the desktop.
I searched in /home/.kde and found kdeglobals.
The first entries are for icons. I wonder if these
default settings control whether device icons will
be displayed or not.
My OS is Kubuntu 7.10 and KDE 3.5.8
why me?

RE: HowTo Modify KDEGlobals

I finally found out how to fix this problem.
First: Right-click on Desktop and select Create new>Device Link>Hard-drive.
Second: When window opens type in name you have chosen.
Third: left-click Device tab and enter /dev/device designation assigned by OS.
Fourth: left-click OK, window will close and Device-icon will appear on Desktop.
why me?
