KMail attachment warning

Hi there.

One very useful feature of KMail is the attachment warning, where if you include the word "attachment" in your message without actually having an attachment, it warns you when you press 'send', in case you forgot to attach it.

Unfortunately, my employer has mandated a new disclaimer at the foot of all our messages, which just so happens to include the word 'attachment' (as in something to the effect of "we disclaim liability for viruses in any attachment to this email").

The trouble is that KMail now sees all my messages as including the word 'attachment', so I've been forced to turn the feature off.

It seems a real shame, as it is a very useful feature, which has saved me from embarrassment a few times, that I've had to disable it just because KMail isn't smart enough to ignore the signature block when doing the check.

Assuming there isn't anything I've missed, how would I suggest this to the KMail team as a future enhancement?

Thanks for listening :)

Spudley.

RE: KMail attachment warning

Well, you could remove "attachment" from the list of words in the auto-detect list, and then not use "attachment" in the message body. I'm thinking "attached" would be more-often used in a message body, anyway (e.g. "I have attached..." or "See the attached file...", etc.).

You would just have to make a habit of not using the word "attachment" - which may or may not be feasible.

I know next to nothing about configuring KMail beyond what is immediately obvious from the configuration dialogues, so perhaps someone else has a better idea. :)

RE: KMail attachment warning

Hi chipbennett, thanks for the reply.

It's a good idea. I'll have a look and see what combinations will work. Still not really ideal, but better than nothing. :)

To the KMail devs: please accept this as a feature request, to skip the signature when checking for the 'attachment' word list.

Thank you.
