Can't get kmail to send using gmail

I have it setup correctly under outgoing accounts
smtp.gmail.com
port 465
[X]server requires authentication
myusername@gmail.com
mypassword
Security
Encryption
SSL (but have also tried tls)
Authentication Method
PLAIN

The error message i get is rather cryptic:
Sending failed:
The attempt to start sending the message content failed.
The server responded: "5.5.1 RCPT first i34sm8042274wxd"
The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder.
The following transport protocol was used:
gmail
