Create new toolbar (or context) action for Kate?

I often use my computer from the armchair. The mouse is to hand, but the keyboard requires effort to reach. It's a great way to browse the WWW, but I often copy text, from the various sites I visit, into a Kate or KEdit window.

I need some means of entering 'new line' characters without reaching for the keyboard and I thought it would be great to just click a Toolbar icon or have an entry in the right click (context) menu.

Through searching I found it's easy enough to create new Konqueror service menus actions, but they presumably only work in Konqueror on selected files. Correct me if I'm wrong there.

Is there a way to achieve this without messing with the source code and recompiling?

Thanks, John.
