Running KPDF 0.5.6 with KDE 3.5.6 with a [K]Ubuntu Feisty distro that I just installed.
The problem is that when I try to open any PDF with KPDF, I see a window that says "Loaded a one-page document" and none of my document is displayed. However, if I invoke kpdf via sudo:
alex@lingeek:/home/manuals/sirius$ sudo kpdf jansoapr.pdf

kdeinit: Can't connect to the X Server.
kdeinit: Might not terminate at end of session.

Xlib: No protocol specified
kded: cannot connect to X server :0.0
DCOP aborting call from 'anonymous-8102' to 'kded'
kded: ERROR: Communication problem with kded, it probably crashed.
as you see, I get a lot of errors, but KPDF displays the document correctly. I've tried setting the
file privileges for the PDFs to 777 but that doesn't seem to help. And, anyway, I can open these
PDF files with Evince (a little buggy, but not bad), xpdf (a little primitive), and acroread (a snorting pig) without using sudo.
I must be doing something stupid/wrong but I can't find any diagnostic information from KPDF. Nothing in the logs, nothing displays in the Konsole window where I invoke KPDF. Nothing.
When I request Properties for the PDF in KPDF, it shows "No document opened." I'd like to use KPDF, but running it via sudo is too much hassle and seems crazy, anyway. Does anyone have a clue for the clueless? Should I go to an Ubuntu forum?
Thanks,
Alex
