[Kopete]Downloading AIM contacts

I've had problems with this with countless versions of Kopete. I love Kopete, it's great when it downloads my contacts. I love it above all. But most of the time, it refuses to download my contacts. I can not tell you how many different versions I've used of Kopete with this bug, but the ones I've tried tonight are:

  • 0.12.2-ubuntu~dapper
  • 0.12.2 (from source)
  • latest SVN

Each time I've deleted the ~/.kde/share/apps/kopete folder, and also ~/.kde/share/config/kopeterc file, and to no avail.

I use SimplyMEPIS with KDE 3.5.3 and Qt 3.3.6.

I've had this problem for a while, so I've been using GAIM all this time, but I really want to go back to Kopete.

I remember once reading the verbose of it, and it said something like "contact [contactname] cannot be added, we are not online!" or something similar, so I'm suspecting it tries adding contacts before I'm signed on? Is there anyway I can fix this?

I'll try and get an example verbose in a little bit, thanks in advance!

kopete (oscar): [void OscarAccount::processSSIList()] Adding contact 'USERNAME' to kopete list in group Iternet Friends
kopete (oscar): [virtual bool OscarAccount::createContact(const QString&, Kopete::MetaContact*)] Can't add contact, we are offline!

Yes, I get connected, I receive messages, but it then ads that user into my "not in contacts list", even if it is someone I know is on my usual list. So it connects, but just doesn't have any users (it doesn't say "all users offline", it keeps all my groups, but says I have 0 contacts complete).
