system menu doesn't work at all

system menu doesn't work at all

am running Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 , just installed Kubuntu-desktop, and

the four items under "system menu" will not work at all :

KDEInit could not launch '/home/richard'

Malformed URL media:/.

Malformed URL remote:/.

Malformed URL home:/.

Any help fixing this problem will be greatly appreciated; and yes

I have searched the forum threads, to no avail.

Any help out there?

I've tried making KDE the default desktop app, and that does nothing to help the problem.

Am disapointed that no one is responding at all. So far KDE is unusable junk.

Maybe your distro is not kde friendly. Ubuntu is afaik gnome-centric. Get PCLinuxOS or openSuSE...

My thanks to Askreiger on Kubuntu Forums for this fix :

The problem was a damaged file , " /home/myusername/.kde "

The fix is to rename that file to " /home/myusername/.kde_bad " or some such,

and let the system reconstruct a brand-new .kde file

Worked like a charm !
